AboutMada

Rod introducing participatory video in Southern Madagascar.

I am engaged in some of the most critical environmental and human rights issues confronting the developing world. Work I have pursued for several decades. Specializing in the Southeast Asian region, I report on the struggles of indigenous and local people to protect their forests, farmlands and rivers in the face of resource exploitation and development projects.

Multimedia journalist, photographer, film-maker, media-trainer and development communications practitioner, I have a post-graduate academic background in environment and development.

Working independently I provide freelance expertise to media outlets and organisations. Producing multimedia materials involves researching and writing reports and articles, as well as producing videos and photo stories. At home behind a camera, I am also a persistent researcher and interviewer, uncovering new and often overlooked stories. My photography is represented by the Polaris Images agency in New York.

Feel free to watch my documentary film, ‘Defenders of the Spirit Forest‘ about efforts by Cambodian people to defend some of their last forests in the country. The film was selected for the 2014 Document international Human Rights festival where it received its premiere screening.

Please do get in touch through the contact page or write a comment if you would like to follow-up with me about anything on my site such as using material, or to discuss collaboration or commissions. For non-profit organisations I offer discounts, so do get in touch to discuss your needs.
